Interest Groups

     Interest groups are organizations like the AFL-CIO that represent labor unions; the U.S. Chamber of Commerce represents business interests; and others ranging from different political ideologies and agenda: the National Rifle Association (NRA); the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and many more. These groups are formal organizations seeking to influence policy through political channels using methods I will discuss shortly. The U.S. has so many interest groups, the true number of interest groups are unknown. The most well-known groups like the ones mentioned above are highly organized.

    What this means is that many different organizations that were created interest groups that help dictate certain things that happened in the government. These companies these companies work with politicians to pass laws to benefit their production company. These groups have been around for years and have infiltrated much of the United States government. From the presidency to the smallest seat in Congress. The power that they wield, and the ability they have two turn votes against a Democrat or Republican. It is fascinating how some of these injuries groups also separate themselves from either party with the example of NAACP and the NRA.

 I chose this because of something that bothered me continues to bother me too this day. When kids were killed in Sandy Hook elementary school on December 14, 2012, in Newtown Connecticut. A 20-year-old Adam Lanza committed this horrific crime. 20 children shot between the ages of six and seven and six adult staff were also murdered. The crime scene well televised from the beginning to a least a year or two later. Congress and Senate went back and forth on different gun laws. The lobby that resides on their Washington and by the NRA which is the National Rifle Association. Fighting to change the gun laws or even how a person was able to obtain a gun is continuously shut down by the NRA. This is where I began to get sick and tired of the nonsense that goes on in this country. The parents of these children killed went to Washington to fight to change these gun laws. Pres. Barack Obama was in office when the tragedy occurred brought the families to the White House with important press conferences in the gun lobby the Senate and Congress all shut them down. Kids were killed innocent NRA and the gun lobbyists in Washington act as if it did not exist. This was not white or black issue this is an atrocity committed because of a young person being able to retrieve a gun. There are people with mental illnesses young and old that have not been screened when purchasing a firearm. Since this shooting, there has been much more all because of the same reason the gun lobbyists and the NRA do not want to tamper with the laws because it affects their bottom line.

Only citizens born in the U.S. can be President

Akhil Reed Amar, looks at the limitations on naturalized citizens for holding office, specifically the President. The Constitution states that only citizens born in the U.S. are eligible to be President of the U.S., as he says. But those American citizens who happen to have been born abroad to non-American parents — and who later choose to become “naturalized” American citizens — are not the full legal equals of those of us born in the U.S. True, naturalized Americans have always been allowed to serve as cabinet secretaries, Supreme Court justices, senators and governors. And at the founding, anyone already a citizen could be president, regardless of birthplace.
