The Presidency Obama

"We are in the midst of crisis is now well understood.  Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred.  Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age.  Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered.  Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many -- and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.
These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics.  Less measurable, but no less profound, is a sapping of confidence across our land; a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, that the next generation must lower its sights". (President Obama)

The meaning of this passage is president Obama leading the world know the task that he was about to face. All of the things that Obama mentioned in this piece we are still trying to fix today. The Republicans of this country tend to act as if George Bush Junior was never in the office or caused the country to spiral out of control. All of these things have been blamed on Pres. Obama's policies. Pres. Obama practically had to sign executive orders on the majority of bills he wanted to pass. This was due to the Republicans can't wait to deny the different things president Obama was trying to pass. 

I chose this part of Pres. Obama's speech when he first became president of the United States of America because the economy has been and will always be the main focus in this country. In the year they became president of the country was going through an economic crisis we are on the verge of another depression. To have the first black president in the United States considering the history of this country and slavery was a major milestone for the ages. Coming to this point at a time when the country is in such a crisis to me is no coincidence. If you look at the administration at this current time all they do is blame Obama but the president now could never deal with what Obama had to do to fix in this country. The housing crisis affected everyone it didn't matter. Unemployment was at all time high schoolers were failing and a host of other things were falling apart in this country. The first black president in a country fueled by racism now has to blend party lines and bring Republicans and Democrats together. So many Republicans did not like Obama if you actually it was not because he was just a Democrat it also had to do with the color of his skin and the office he held. Education was another institution failing in this country. How can we compete with any other country if we can't even pay for schools or teachers to give the proper education to students? Obama fought hard against Republicans and Democrats alike to pass many bills many had to be done by executive order but the country did not fall into another crisis such as the 1920s.

Interest Groups

     Interest groups are organizations like the AFL-CIO that represent labor unions; the U.S. Chamber of Commerce represents business interests; and others ranging from different political ideologies and agenda: the National Rifle Association (NRA); the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and many more. These groups are formal organizations seeking to influence policy through political channels using methods I will discuss shortly. The U.S. has so many interest groups, the true number of interest groups are unknown.
